Save recipes from the iPhone share sheet

An iPhone does not let a web app into its share sheet, so Panwich comes with a Shortcut that goes there in its place. You set it up once. After that you share a Reel or a TikTok to it, a card names the recipe it saved, and the recipe is waiting in Panwich. On Android none of this is needed: install Panwich and it is in the share sheet.

What you need

  • 1iPhoneWith the Shortcuts app, which comes with it.
  • 1Panwich accountA name, an email and a password. Free while Panwich is in its early days.
  • 1key from SettingsIt tells Panwich whose recipes to add to. It can add a recipe and do nothing else.

Method

  1. Make your key

In Panwich, open Settings and find Put it on your phone. Make your key there and copy it. Panwich shows it once.

  2. Add the Shortcut

Press Add the Panwich Shortcut on the same screen. The Shortcuts app opens. Paste your key where it asks for it, then tap Add Shortcut.

  3. Share a recipe to it

In Instagram, TikTok or Safari, tap Share and choose Panwich. The first time, the iPhone asks whether the Shortcut may talk to panwich.app. Allow it.

  4. Find it in Panwich

A card names the recipe and says how many ingredients and steps it read. Open Panwich and the recipe is at the top, under Just added.

What it reads, and what it cannot

Panwich takes

  • Everything pasting the link reads: the caption, the amounts, the steps and the photo.
  • Whether you saved that post before. It says so and does not save it twice.
  • It opens nothing. You stay in the app you were sharing from.

It cannot read

  • It saves without showing you the recipe first. The card's count of ingredients and steps is your check.
  • It cannot put Panwich itself in the share sheet. That is Apple's rule for web apps, and no setting changes it.
  • It needs a connection at the moment you share.

If it does not work

The card says Panwich does not know this key
The key was replaced or pasted wrongly. Make a new key in Settings and add the Shortcut again.
The card says not saved
The post has no recipe in its caption, or its page would not open. Open Panwich and add it from a screenshot.
You would sooner look each recipe over first
Settings has a second Shortcut that opens the recipe in the editor and saves nothing until you do.

Questions

Why is Panwich not in the iPhone share sheet like other apps?
Because it is a web app. Apple lets App Store apps and Shortcuts into the share sheet and leaves out web apps added to the home screen. Android lets them in.
How does it work on Android?
Open Panwich in Chrome and choose Install app. It then appears in the share sheet of Instagram, TikTok and Chrome. It has to be installed, not bookmarked.
What can the key do?
Add a recipe to your account. It cannot read your recipes, change them or sign in. Make a new one in Settings and the old one stops working.
Does the Shortcut leave notifications behind?
No. It shows a card that you close, and nothing stays on the lock screen or in Notification Centre.
Is it free?
Yes. Free while Panwich is in its early days.

Two taps from a Reel to your shelf.

Make an account, add the Shortcut, and share the next recipe you see.
